To change the Root password on a dedicated server running CentOS operating system, first connect to your server main IP using SSH, and then log in as root. After you have logged in, at the prompt type: passwd
You will be asked to enter your new password, and then asked to confirm it, usually it is a good idea to then reboot your dedicated server. We usually recommend choosing a password that is at least 8 characters long, containing both upper and lowercase letters, as well as numbers and punctuation marks.
