SSD is a term that describes Solid State hard drives, a method of data storage that is used in dedicated servers. SSD drives are more efficient than SATA hard drives mainly because they have no moving parts. Having no moving parts eliminates a potential point of failure and this usually will mean a longer lifetime before a hard drive would need to be replaced. SSD hard drives can fail, and it is recommended that all users of SSD hard drives have a data protection plan in place. When data is very important it is often suggested that multiple SSD hard drives be used in a RAID configuration.
